The Syrian Exporters Union, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and External Trade, inaugurated the 1st exhibition for export mechanisms at the Damascus-based Dama Rose Hotel in the presence of an Iraqi delegation of 200 tradesmen and industrialists.
The exhibition, which aims at enhancing the Syrian local industry and exports, showcases products by 100 Syrian industrialists and producers from different sectors such as textile, agriculture, finance, chemistry, transportation, energy, technology and packaging.
The 3-day event will also include holding lectures and meetings between Syrian and Iraqi producers, industrialists and tradesmen to sign agreements on exporting Syrian products to the Iraqi markets.
Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Adib Mayaleh highly appreciated the role of Syrian industrialists who stayed steadfast and continued production despite the sabotage acts and destructive practices of terrorists backed by the US and Turkey.
He indicated that the wide participation of Iraqi businessmen proves the determination of Syrian and Iraqi sides to open crossings and restore the economic, trade and industrial relations between the two countries, adding that the exhibition provides an evidence on the steadfastness of the Syrian economy and efforts exerted to keep the wheel of production turning.
He called for providing all facilities and necessary support to the Syrian producers who insisted to continue work in small workshops after the destruction of their factories.
In turn, Chairman of the Iraqi Federation of Chambers of Commerce who head the Iraqi delegation, Jaafar Al-Hamadani, said that the Iraqi participation aims at moving forward the sustainable development process in both countries, enhancing economic relations and opening border crossings to facilitate trade between the two sides.
He noted that the other objective of this visit is to express solidarity with Syria and to congratulate the Syrian people over the Syrian army’s victories in Aleppo.
For his part, Syria’s Ambassador in Baghdad Sattam al-Dandah stressed the importance of meetings between the Syrian and Iraqi businessmen for shedding light on Syrian products and discussing the possibility of exporting them to the Iraqi markets, adding that intensive visits will be organized to overcome obstacles and boost trade exchange between the two states.
